Flare Protocol

Care that adapts when skin doesn't.

When skin is scratched, open, or actively flaring, the Ritual changes shape.

The Ritual Has Two Modes

The default. And the adaptation.

The default protocol works on calm, intact skin. Three products, three functional roles:

  • Calm the barrier in the evening with the Serum.
  • Support overnight with the Oil.
  • Protect through the day with the Moisturizer.

When skin shifts into a flare, the Ritual shifts with it. The Serum and Moisturizer are paused.
The Oil is used alone until the barrier stabilizes.

Recognizing a Flare

When to use the Flare Protocol.

Trigger the protocol when skin shows signs of active inflammation, broken surface, or acute reactivity.

  • Scratches or open areasThe skin barrier is broken in one or more places.
  • Severe irritationVisible redness, swelling, or persistent itching.
  • Acute inflammationThe skin feels hot, raised, or noticeably reactive to its usual products.
The Protocol

Oil alone. Twice daily.
Five to seven days.

Barrier Nourishing Oil · morning and evening

When to Trigger

When skin shows active flare symptoms: scratches, open areas, severe irritation, or acute inflammation.

Frequency

Morning and evening, in place of the default Ritual. Twice-daily application supports barrier recovery while skin is compromised.

Duration

Five to seven days, until the skin feels comforted and intact.

Returning to the Default

Once the barrier has stabilized, reintroduce the Serum in the evening routine and the Moisturizer in the morning routine.

The Reasoning

Why the Oil alone during flares.

On calm, intact skin, the Serum's actives, including niacinamide, panthenol, glycerin, and beta-glucan, calm reactivity, hydrate deeply, and prepare the barrier for what follows. The Moisturizer's actives, including ceramides, allantoin, and dimethicone, strengthen the barrier and seal in protection through the day. They are the work of Calm and Protect.

During an active flare, the barrier is already compromised. Actives designed for intact skin may cause additional discomfort when skin is open or severely irritated. The Ritual pauses them until the barrier has stabilized.

The Barrier Nourishing Oil is formulated without these actives. It delivers essential fatty acids and barrier-supporting lipids in a single, gentle application that does not sting. Its role during flares is to nourish and support the skin. This creates the foundation the barrier needs before the Serum and Moisturizer resume their daily roles.

The Oil operates as the Ritual's rescue product. It is used alone twice daily during flares, and then as the second step of the evening Ritual once skin is intact. The same product serves both modes because its formulation is gentle enough for compromised skin yet effective enough to be the nightly nourishment layer.

Built into the Ritual

How the Ritual communicates this.

Both the Barrier Boosting Serum and Barrier Repair Moisturizer packaging direct parents to the Oil during flares. The Oil packaging does not redirect, because it is the flare protocol.

This cross-referencing means any product a parent picks up during a flare directs them to the correct protocol.

Clinical Safety

When to seek professional guidance.

Brown Babee Blessedâ„¢ Multi-Benefit Care is formulated for daily management of sensitive and eczema-prone skin. It is not a medical treatment. Parents should consult a pediatrician, pediatric dermatologist, or healthcare professional if:

  • The skin condition worsens or does not improve within seven days of consistent flare-response use
  • The child experiences signs of infection including increasing redness, warmth, pus, or fever
  • Open lesions do not begin to close
  • The child exhibits signs of systemic reaction such as swelling, difficulty breathing, or extensive rash

This protocol is a framework for proactive barrier care. It does not replace medical evaluation for active eczema requiring prescription treatment.

Patch testing

Before introducing any product, perform a 24-hour patch test on a small, unaffected area of skin. This is especially important for children with known sensitivities or newly diagnosed eczema. Discontinue use if irritation occurs and consult a healthcare professional.

Age-appropriate use

All three products are formulated for babies, toddlers, and children. Application and frequency should be adjusted based on the child's age and skin condition. For infants under three months, consult a pediatrician before beginning any skincare routine.
